Hailing from Venezuela, Marya comes from a family of artists, dancers, and musicians alike. She grew up dancing in her mothers dance school (Danza Contemporánea de Maracaibo), and at the age of 12 shifted her interests to explore instruments like the guitar and the cello. As gifted as she was, by the age of 15 Marya would find herself performing with the Zulia Regional and Venezuelan Youth Orchestras.
In 2002, Marya had moved from New York to Columbus, OH where she signed a record deal with Columbus records aligning her talents in singing and music with a Pop/Hip-hop group named Fatty Koo.
A decade later, Marya stopped touring the U.S. and received her Bachelors in Music Technology & Related Arts from Oberlin College in Northern Ohio. After college Marya began training in martial arts as she says “learning about the important things that really mattered in life.”
Principles passed down to her such as respect, service, and discipline would develop her into the professional she desired to be as her ambitions began to bloom embracing her love and purpose using Yoga as an art for healing. It wasn’t until 2013 that Marya would tap into deeper meanings taught to her by her parents about the importance of meditation and yoga, leading her to begin learning how to become an instructor at Yoga on High in Columbus Ohio.
Since then, Marya has been teaching different styles Yoga Restorative, Flow Yoga, Power Yoga, Vinyasa Yoga, Hot Yoga, and Bootcamp, as well as, Aerial Yoga and Aquatic Fitness Yoga, to her friends, colleagues, and students across the Greater Columbus area.
In 2014 she would combine her experience working with healing arts and martial arts by aiding the Sport Fitness & Health program at Ohio State University. Here she would pass on her knowledge of Tai Chi, Qigong, Shuai Chiao, Kung Fu, and boxing to the students of the University, aiding many and establishing lifelong meaningful connections along the way.
In 2018, She decided to focus on teaching Trauma Sensitive Yoga and Mindfulness as a Mental Health Specialist for Teenagers ranging the ages of 12 to 18 years olds, at Sequel Pomegranate an Acute and residential Health Systems.
Marya is dedicated to promoting wellness by offering private and group sessions, where her clients can learn the necessary tools to better their health in a holistic manner (mind , body and spirit.) She focuses her approach to healing through trauma informed Mindful Movement, Yoga, Tai Chi, energy work, Mobility awareness, and Pranayama.
