About Me (human):
I grew up in the country, dancing alone, playing the piano. Avoiding the piano competitions, I took a dance class that gave me free access to the concerts, symposiums at Tanglewood, the summer home of Boston Symphony. I fell in love with dance, studied percussion and dance in Ghana and fell in love with film as a means to tell stories that can not be expressed solely through words. Gradually, I grew to appreciate all the forms of expression possible through the media

Fast forward (revisited)

This week has been an exciting melange of opportunities blossoming for dance on camera on the internet. This made me think about the article I was asked to write in 2000 about the future of dance films. Will this prediction indeed happen? Below is an excerpt from the article... "In 2050, when choreographers jetpack to their studios, they will arrive with their warm-up complete, having executed their stretching exercises along the way. The wall-size mirror-- which doubles as a screen and a compu… Continue

Evolution

Marlon & I have been debating the design of an on-line component to dance on camera. We've explored some names, such as dance on camera: mash-up or Mash-Up Mambo. We've wondered whether to make it a contest to be judged by editors, to tie it to specific scores or themes, to offer prizes or to set it up as something more timeless, something that could continue into perpetuity. Reading today that Charles Darwin would be 200 next year, I propose that we honor his theory of evolution. How to do… Continue

Nice ideas
Do you happen to know anyone who works at VH1/ MTV?

Maybe we could have a call for silent films and create an event inviting the musicians to accompany it. The audience picks their favorite and the musician plays again.

hmmm...perhaps the musicians play live with the video. or representing collaborations of local musicians with local dancers/videographers...keeping nyc alive...get MTV to feature a dance film as a music video... :)
