2010 Season artist Yasuko Yokoshi talks about her work in progress Tyler Tyler (200): http://www.mancc.org/multimedia/
Highlights of the research and development process for Tyler Tyler, a new work choreographed by Yasuko Yokoshi and performed by Julie Alexander, Kayvon Pourazar [American dancers], Kayo Seyama [Japanese dancer], Kuniya Sawamura [Japanese actor/dancer], Naoki Asaji [Japanese actor] and Steven Reker [musician/composer].
“In 2009 Yokoshi furthers this investigation in a new work which aims to respect formal movement vocabulary, while experimenting with stripping the historical and cultural context. With the American cast, Yokoshi will apply a postmodern vocabulary to the scale and structure of the Kabuki-style choreography. With the traditional Japanese performers, who have all trainted for many years with Seyama, she will explore the effect of contemporary choreographic techniques on their Kabuki forms. The 2009 DTW partnership project has been supported in part by the National Endowment for the Arts.” —Maggie Allesee National Center for Choreography website.
