the beauty of disconnection (part 2)

We experience life through our bodies. It means that we are as we are and we think as we think because of the fact that our mind is embodied. At the same time that we construct our own identity and project it to the others by means of the body, this physical condition makes us vulnerable to control, violence and punishment constantly inflicted by power structures on all scales. We all are supposed to act, to think, to move or even to live under the established norms that rule society through laws as well as through traditions, conventions and the models highlighted by market economy. Politics pervade our bodies but also our bodies can make politics. Disconnecting from external stimuli that don’t allow us to develop intellectually, sexually or culturally is the way to abolish conflicts between mind and body and reestablish our liberty.

우리는 육체를 통해 삶을 경험한다. 이는 우리의 정신이 육체에 깃들어 있다는 사실로부터 우리가 사고하고 존재하는 방식이 기인한다는 것을 의미한다. 동시에 우리는 육체를 통하여 스스로의 정체성을 수립하고 다른 존재들을 상대로 이를 투영한다는 사실, 이러한 물리적이고 육체적인 조건은 우리를 다양한 층위로 존재하는 권력 구조가 끊임없이 가하는 통제와 폭력 그리고 징벌에 취약한 상태로 노출시킨다. 우리 모두가 행동하고, 사고하고 심지어는 살아가는 행위 모두는 전통과 관습, 시장경제로 대표되는 여러 모델들뿐만 아니라 법을 통해 사회를 지배하는 규범에 당연히 순응해야 하는 것으로 상정된다. 정치는 우리의 육체에 영향을 끼친다. 그러나 우리의 육체 또한 역으로 정치를 규정해낼 수 있다. 육체와 정신 사이에 발생하는 갈등을 제거하고 우리의 자유를 다시금 세울 수 있는 길은 무엇일까? 우리가 지적, 성적 그리고 문화적으로 발전해나가지 못하도록 작동하는 외부로부터의 충동으로부터의 단절을 이루어내는 것이야말로 그 해답이 될 것이다.
