Andres Bosshard found his inspiration for building such a complex sound space instrument during a conversation with Detlev Schneider in the big empty hall of the Festspielhaus Hellerau: a rotor is equipped with four separately controllable speakers. When it is moving, a manifold number of quasi-speakers emerge from the turbulence of the four sound sources. They sound into different directions and undulate the space. A virtual body of sound is generated. Numerous sound space patterns are created by varying rotation speed. A live voice can be transmitted to the rotor as well as the multi-channelled mix of a live concert. The compositions prepared for this novel space organ unfold its strobophone potential.
The rotobossophon was coproduced by Pro Helvetia, singuhr-hoergalerie in parochial.
