Crowd members with 12 different styles of walking navigate through traffic. Faster walkers pass slower ones and avoid collisions while turning and crossing intersections. The last scene shows the composition of "idle" singles and groups in conversation that have been "painted in" and then fine-tuned using parameters of gender, density, behavior type, placement and orientation. All of the scenes in the test were composed in minutes and simulated at real-time rates. More information may be found on the Autodesk Labs Project Geppetto Technology Previews.

Comment by Michael Girard on October 24, 2011 at 3:35pm I just replaced an obnoxious soundtrack with a more appropriate, tasteful, and ambient substitute: Brian Eno's "Music for Airports." Too bad airports and markets in the U.S. don't do the same.
This video is obviously just a quick and dirty tech demo. As the real-time crowd simulation R&D evolves into a product, we will produce a professionally rendered example with high-quality skinned figures and architecture . The tool's relationship with dance choreography will become more apparent as new composition capabilities are introduced.
