Interdisciplinary explorations on the performance of motion
Performance
CYNETart_03transit, 10.10.2003, Festspielhaus Hellerau
Composition/computer: Wilfried Jentzsch, programming: Frieder Weiß, movement/dance: Udo Zickwolf
The performance is a multi-layer interaction between movement and sound, allowing the performer to control electronic sounds with his movements. This is done using a special software EyeCon designed to let the magical eye of the camera analyse every point in the captured 3D space. The data controls musical parameters of two prefabricated mini-sequences of 25 and 40 seconds length. The sequences are based on granular synthesis. The actor modifies different aspects of the sequences
parameters like their speed and direction (forwards/backwards), their volume and the duration of the grains (sound bits).
Thus, complex networks develop between the three movement-controlled parameters. The scale ranges from smoothly flowing movements to maximum dynamic energy. The actors body language interprets the character of the sounds more or less continually. The composer, reacting from his PC, still has access to the sounds. He controls further parameters during the performance. - An acoustic reaction (in the form of the modification of the sound) emerges from the action of the dancer.
This again leads to an interaction through the stepping in of the composer. Correlations develop in a complex network of changes in apperception, a scanning of time and space leads to our innermost sensations.
