ounded in 1971, The Kitchen is an internationally acclaimed, non-profit performance and visual arts space located in New York City's Chelsea arts district. We are dedicated to commissioning and presenting new work by innovative artists working within, and across, the fields of music, dance, theater, video, film, and literature. The Kitchen is best-known for its commitment to experimental, interdisciplinary work — providing instrumental support during the early years of artists’ careers. Many figures have continued on to worldwide prominence, such as Laurie Anderson, David Byrne, Philip Glass, Bill T. Jones, John Jasperse, Miranda July, Young Jean Lee, Christian Marclay, Sarah Michelson, Meredith Monk, Nico Muhly, and Bill Viola. Each year, The Kitchen presents more than ninety evenings of performance in our theater as well as organizing six exhibitions in our gallery, both of which are accompanied by a wide array of auxiliary education programs.
This is a social networking website connecting people concerned about innovation and experimentation on art, dance, embodiment, cognition, science, networks, post-humanism, media and the unstable landscape of contemporary culture and life.
We are in a transitional phase and refocusing the network with a broader interdisciplinary framework. It will reflect a contemporary community interacting and embedded unstablelandscape.
This network is maintained and administrated by Marlon Barrios Solano as an independent art/curatorial/social innovation project.
