Katharine Vega is an artist, researcher and educator at chroma.space. She creates media performance, interactive art and games experiments playfully investigating the flexible relationship between the real and imagined and the life-giving potentials of creative technology. The work brings experimental performance and storytelling together with immersive and interactive technologies, so that the audience’s perception, movement and participation become a vital part of the action.
Chroma.space runs open labs, public events and workshops on how we sense, communicate and receive information about the ecosphere and beyond. chroma.space is currently exploring how Virtual Reality, Mixed Reality and network technology can dive deep into shared experience and remembering what we hold sacred. Our projects collaborate across disciplines, bringing in diverse perspectives from dance to architecture, magic to neuroscience, anthropology to physics. We believe that questions of mental, social and environmental ecology do not simply inform each other, but depend on each other.
Katharine is working on a practice-based PHD at the University of Sussex, researching affective touch, multi-sensory integration and virtual and mixed reality environments with joint supervision from the School of Media and the Sackler Centre for Consciousness Science.
