Above and Beyond Dance was created to explore the nearly limitless potential in the fusion of dance and circus arts work—-a blend which creates possibilities that go far beyond the traditional spectacle of circus and which expands upon the choreographic possibilities of dance.

Essentially, our interest lies in creating movement which functions within a dance aesthetic, as we utilize circus arts disciplines such as aerial work (including aerial fabric, harness and static trapeze), stilts, and acrobatics. Our goal using these techniques, with all the accompanying excitement and visual possibilities, is to effectively extend the range of line and movement beyond that which traditional dance styles can achieve.

Artistic Director, Chriselle Tidrick founded Above and Beyond Dance in 2007. She is a choreographer and producer of dance work, aerial work, and stilt work. She has successfully produced four seasons of circus-infused dance: "Dreamscapes and Other Imaginings," (2014) at The Muse Brooklyn; "RAW" (2011) at Manhattan Movement & Arts Center; "Ascendance" (2009) at The Flea Theater; and "Seeking" (2008) at Kumble Theater for the Performing Arts. Ms. Tidrick has also appeared with her company at venues including: The Muse (MuseIAm Showcase); Output Club, Brooklyn (Raw Artists Showcase); Streb Lab for Action Mechanics; NYC Aerial Dance Festival 2011 (LaGuardia Performing Arts Center & MMAC); Dixon Place; Galapagos ArtSpace; NYC Aerial Dance Festival 2010 (JCC Theater); Sky Box; Brooklyn Arts eXchange; La Mama Moves 2009 Festival; WaxWorks; the Zipper Theater; and the Belt Theater. Her company and choreography were also featured in the BMC Films' short film, "Eastern Winds."

Ms. Tidrick was a Spring 2014 Guest Artist in Dance at George Washington University where she set two sections of her aerial dance work RAW on student dancers.

Upcoming Event!

Join Above and Beyond Dance on June 7 for its 2014 Benefit Party/Performance. The evening includes drinks, light hors d'oeuvres, a silent auction and a preview performance of several sections of the company's new creation, "Dreamscapes." In these sections, a cast of five highly trained dancer-circus artists utilize contemporary dance, aerial harness, and stilt disciplines to depict the ethereal wonder of dreams and the surreal terror of nightmares. An electronic version of a new score by avant-garde composer and bassist Brian Questa will enhance and deepen the otherworldly quality of the scenes unfolding on stage. All proceeds support "Dreamscapes and Other Imaginings," the Above and Beyond Dance September 2014 season of circus-infused dance.

The event will be held at Soundance Studio, located at 281 N. 7th St. in Williamsburg, Brooklyn. The closest subways are the L to Bedford Ave., or the G to Metropolitan Ave.

Tickets are $35 in advance or $40 at the door. To purchase, visit:
