Above and Beyond Dance features four dancer-aerialists in its latest full-length production, RAW. It is the only way to know that you are not a SPAMBOT!Be generous!: Above and Beyond Dance was created to explore the enormous range of untapped potential in the fusion of dance and circus arts work—a blend which creates possibilities that go far beyond the traditional spectacle of circus and which expands upon the choreographic possibilities of dance.

Essentially, our interest lies in creating movement which functions within a dance aesthetic, as we utilize circus arts disciplines such as aerial work (including aerial fabric, harness and static trapeze) stilts and acrobatics. Our goal, using these techniques, with all the accompanying excitement and visual possibilities, is to effectively extend the range of line and movement beyond that which traditional dance styles can achieve.

Artistic Director, Chriselle Tidrick founded Above and Beyond Dance in 2007. A former competitive gymnast, she has performed extensively as a dancer and stilt dancer with various New York based companies. She has also choreographed dance work, stilt work, and aerial work. Her interest lies in merging modern dance with circus arts, and she feels there is a huge range of untapped potential in this blend. Chriselle successfully produced Seeking, the Above and Beyond Dance inaugural season at Kumble Theater for the Performing Arts in downtown Brooklyn (2008), and Ascendance, the company’s 2009 season at The Flea Theater in lower Manhattan. Her work has also been shown in the New York area at: NYC Aerial Dance Festival 2010 (JCC Theater), Dixon Place, Galapagos, Brooklyn Arts Exchange, Streb, Sky Box (at the House of Yes), La Mama Moves Festival 2009, Spoke the Hub, WaxWorks, The Zipper Theater, Micro Museum, The Surrey at Skidmore College, The Belt Theater, BRIC, and Trinity on Main Fall Festival.

RAW, the third Above and Beyond Dance season of circus-infused dance will be held Oct. 13-16, 2011 at Manhattan Movement and Arts Center (248 W. 60th St., NYC).
