Enclosed Spaces - Cloisters & Walls
Making "edges" and creating artificial caves (with the sounding reverberance and its magnification of song) encouraged structures of stone... which became cloisters behind which women and men sought seclusion, performed ritual, excluded the ordinary and invited the divine.
The arched and structured ceilings gave voices magnificent extension, and asked stone to join the vibration as it once did actively in ancient times.
