GLOBAL UNDERSCORE 2012

Welcome to the Global Underscore 2012! This year’s Global Underscore will take place on Saturday June 23, from 9:30 am-1:30 pm EST (New York time zone). Underscore NYC is honored to be organizing this event again this year and happily writing to you now to begin our collaboration together.

For the past 11 years, a Global Underscore has been occurring near the summer solstice. Conceived and organized by French dancer Claire Filmon for 10 years, the Global Underscore Solstice is an annual event during which dancers at many sites around the world practice the Underscore simultaneously.

We enthusiastically invite you to join us physically and energetically, in time and in space. With Nancy’s direction and your participation, we will surely create an amazing event together!

Nancy and Mike will be at a Somatics and Technology Conferencein Chichester, UK, and will be hosting an Underscore there on June 23, from 2:30 – 6:30 pm (UK Time). Underscore NYC will be hosting their monthly Underscore practice at the same time in NYC from 9:30 am – 1:30 pm EST.

I know this is a bit late, but I would like to say that it was from here that I was able to copy paste the channel livestream/ustream links to the Second Life Satellite site. Once only 4 were available with the links (noho (?), Sydney and Chichester, plus the SL), as the others had only the embedded window, these were the ones that were streams together on that virtual site. Still, it was wonderful to access and follow the GU as it was happening on these different sites, even if due to the internet connection and the avatar movement, it was needed to reload the links. The videos now at the SL satellite channel http://livestream.com/beverde, recorded the space with the 4 screens and 2 avatars, were recorded at the time where the connection was not as good. Anyway, ut's possible to get an idea of how it would be with all the channels successfully streaming there.

Also, although there were not more avatars, I'd have liked to have my avatar, Butler2 Evelyn, interacting more with the GU jammers, rather than only being out there dancing in the space.

Any way, I was happy to have Butler2 being moved inadvertently by the jammers at Chichester GU site through the webcam interface active, as you can see in parts of the videos recorded live. This interface was developed for Senses Places project by Todd Cochrane (WelTec, NZ).

Very much looking forward for continuing these experiments next year Global Underscore :D

We say goodbye now to this beautiful space in western mass. It held 20 dancers on a scorching hot summer morning; sweating luxuriously together. Until the skies clouded over and opened up, dumping water on the land. We watched in grateful wonder through the windows. Then half of us stripped and ran dancing into it. Sorry, no photo.
