This call opens February 11- the  deadline is March 15, 2012

.

The third version of FIVC will be held the last week of March 2012 and offers different formats for work.

The official selection 3.0 will be displayed in two different spaces.

As one of the purposes of this festival and the idea of stepping outside of the traditional exhibition spaces and creating new audiences is that this year will be taken FIVC a street in the city of Santiago and a movie theater in high quality peripheral cultural space.

The call FIVC 3.0 exhibition opens three categories.
-

  • VD5
  • VDFLMS
  • FILES
From these categories is intended to expand the interaction of video-dance, which inhabits a still indecipherable visual territory between body and camera.

VD5
Appropriating public space in the city Santiago of Chile, as part of the official sample of FIVC 3.0, seeks to seduce VD5 through works of short duration to a passerby daily spectator away from museums, exhibition halls, theater and cinema, bringing it to a format of creation still unknown to many.
The work does not have to exceed the 5 minutes duration,  30 seconds minimum including credits.

VDFILMS

VDFIMLS calls videodance works of medium and long term  for  exhibitions in a traditional  place .

1.  The work does not have to exceed the 40 minutes duration,  10 minutes minimum
including credits.
The subject and treatment of the work are free, understanding “videodance works” without derivatives and where as much the visual and sonorous components especially have been created for this format. They are excluded documentary works, registries of urban interventions and those videos that have been created originally for scenic works (the video as stage scene or complement of the scenic work).

FILES

FILES

calls documentary  for  exhibitions in a traditional  place .
In this category can participate:
docs: Works documentaries dealing with issues, characters, stories, tales, and other creative processes in the field of dance and performance art.
body.mov: Works as a central document including the human body in an expansive field of visual thinking and visual anthropology, anthropology of  body or urban ethnography, which result in the video support.

The official shoowing of VD5 FIVC will take place on Cabildo street in the municipality of La Florida (Santiago), in a busy urban thoroughfare.

In parallel, the selection  VDFILMS and FILES, will be shown in a fully equipped cinema complex in the newly opened Civic Center of El Bosque (Santiago).

OPEN CALL FOR FILMS & PROPOSALS (South Africa & international)

LETTERS FROM THE SKY

screen dance, video poetry, experimental film,

artist's film, video art, microcinema, animation

Objectives

How does climate change affect your habitat? Participating artists should respond to the brief and the theme of evidence of climate change. In researching a personal but informed response to the topic, dialogue/collaboration with scientists is encouraged. Using film as a medium, the complex issues at hand should be transformed into dynamic but simple audiovisual experiences with both popular and critical merit. The work may not be longer than 4 minutes. Brevity is strongly encouraged.

Please e-mail a brief proposal of what you are planning to do (or documentation of existing work that fits the brief), along with any images and online links to relevant previous video works by July 30 2011. Proposals are to follow the format provided below. Postmark deadline: 20 September 2011. Final video works must reach us no later than 30 September 2011. Entry forms will be sent to artists who have made it through the first round (proposals).

The films will be screened in a mobile cinema in local communities and on the COPART Climate Train, travelling by rail through South Africa and resident at the COP17 global climate conference in Durban in November 2011. Thereafter, selections of the programme will travel to international film festivals.

A cash prize is intended for the top entry, as well as an artist's fee for all selected work by African artists. These details will be finalized in August/September 2011. It is confirmed that the COPART climate train has been allocated a significant amount in government and corporate sponsorship. This call is an extension of the call for contributions to the climate train sent out by COPART in April 2011.

For queries and submissions, please contact the curator, Kai Lossgott (kai.lossgott@gmail.com / +27 (0)721198300).

Curator's brief

Millions of people and animals will lose their habitat due to extreme weather events like hurricanes, droughts or flooding. Daily, people around the world are observing evidence of climate change in plant, insect and animal life. 'Letters from the Sky' collects emotional data about your inner and outer climate, your home, values, and how that affects the environment we share. The earth is talking to us. Talk back. Send us your weather report from home.

Fueled by news media spectacle, we have entered an age of uncertainty. Collectively, through international media, we have seen a dramatic increase in droughts, floods, heatwaves, coastal storm surges, hurricanes, earthquakes and tsunamis. Raw oil and nuclear radiation has leaked into the sea. These earth changes, while not all strictly linked to climate change, resound in our global awareness.

Many of us feel powerless about these situations. But it is not all bad news. Climate change is the one social movement that touches all of us, regardless of ethnicity, gender, class, age or creed. Climate change is the youth movement of the 21st century. Artists are asked to respond with their hopes, fears, dreams and nightmares. 'Letters from the Sky' seeks the problems, the evidence, the solutions. How does climate change impact on your home and your community, now and in the future?
