Two groundbreaking international dance companies present their recent performances in this double bill, showcasing technology in performance.
Using motion tracking technology, Asymmetrique Answer (Russia) works with space, body, graphics, light, sound and colour. Ph(r)ase is their new performance, in which the artists go further in combining different forms of arts, media and technology on stage. Dance and sound share a common quality of attention to micro-fluctuations, micro-amplitudes, sense of duration and moment, creating a single aesthetic language.
Serving as the initial study for Troika Ranch's (USA) most recent major work 'loopdiver', Loopdiver Study #1 presents a dreamlike and maddening journey as a solo performer struggles within a relentless structure of looped movement. Moody and intense, this short work puts the frailties of the human body in conflict with an externally imposed machine rhythm.
